VISION, MISSION & GOALS
Vision
The vision of the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association (VATA) College/University Athletic Trainers’ Committee (CUATC) is to recognize and support the certified athletic trainer (ATC) as the primary advocate for collegiate athletic health and safety issues.
Mission Statement
In conjunction with the VATA and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) CUATC, the mission of the VATA College and University Athletic Trainers’ Committee is to:
- Support the overall goals and objectives of the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association;
- Serve the athletic trainers of Virginia who practice in the collegiate setting;
- Promote and enhance athletic training in the college/university setting in Virginia;
- Identify and address issues related to the health and safety of the student athlete;
- Promote institutional ownership in the integrated health care delivery system in intercollegiate athletics.
Goals
The goals of the VATA College and University Athletic Trainers’ Committee serve as a plan to fulfill our mission. This plan is achieved through short- and long-term goals:
Short Term Goals:
- Grassroots marketing of our initiatives by committee members through contacting all college and university athletic training staffs in the state. This marketing will try to accomplish the following:
- Annually contacting all the college/university athletic training staffs in Virginia to maintain accurate contact information
- communicate and disseminate information from the VATA CUATC chair, the VATA Executive Council, and the NATA District III chair to the college/university athletic training staffs
- Development of the committee webpage on the Association’s website
- Creation of a list-serve and establishment of enrollment of as many college and university athletic trainers in Virginia as possible to serve as a means of communication and sharing of resources’
- Establish and promote annual VATA symposium:
- Target the college and university athletic trainers to give a talk(s) on relevant issues pertaining to this population/setting b.
- Have talks “sponsored or coordinated” by the VATA CUAT committee
- Develop VATA CUATC awards
- DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, etc. athletic trainers of the year
Long Term Goals:
- Enhance the position and reputation of college/university athletic trainers in the commonwealth of Virginia
- Promote the profession of athletic training throughout the commonwealth of Virginia
- Provide a voice for college/university athletic trainers at the state and national level
