VATA Executive Council Meeting

- Approval of Minutes
- Officer Reports
- President Elect - Rod Poindexter reported on the VATA Conference –
Conference will be held on January 11-12at the Williamsburg Hospitality
House. Most of the evaluations received following the 2001 conference were
positive. A discussion followed on the generalities of the conference. Rod
will look into the possibility of a luncheon on Saturday during the
meetings. Todd Dunning a representative of Johnson & Johnson has
indicated an interest in being an exhibitor in 2002.
- B. Treasurer's Report – C. Willey reported that the organization
continues to be fluent. There is a checking account balance of $21, 155.42
and a savings account balance of $15, 713.29. In addition, the sum of
$20,000 has been invested through Wachovia Bank.
- C. Secretary's Report – No report
III. Committee Reports and Liaison Reports
- Legislative Committee (Rod Poindexter)
- Information on the proposed regulations can be found on the State of
Virginia web site under the Department of Health Professions and the Board
of Medicine.
- The legislation/regulatory law will go into effect on June 6, 2001
- Public Relations Committee (Scott Powers)
- Scott reported on various activities which have been held
commemorating Athletic Training Month in the Commonwealth.
- A discussion was held as to whether the organization should purchase
additional display boards to ease the difficulty of making sure that
appropriate persons have access to display boards for important events.
A motion was made by R. Poindexter and seconded by M. Cargill to
purchase two additional display boards. A vote was taken and the motion
passed.
- Secondary Schools Committee
The display board will be at the Athletic Directors’ meeting and the
state coaches meeting in July in Hampton.
D. Membership Committee (Mike Cargill)
- The organization currently boasts 775+ members as determined by using
the national directory information (as of March 29).
- A discussion was held regarding the VATA web site and the need to have
current timely information posted there. The committee decided to place an
ad in the spring newsletter searching for a webmaster to attend to
maintaining the organization’s web site.
- The membership list will be made available to our bronze patron in
accordance with the by-laws. A discussion followed regarding guidelines
for the distribution of the member list. The discussion will be continued.
E. Scholarship Committee
- Tom Jones reported via letter that 32 applications had been requested
and mailed. At the time of this meeting only two completed applications
had been received. The deadline for completed applications is April 15.
F. Nominations Committee (Jim Buriak)
- Chuck Carter has resigned as the District 2 representative (Richmond,
Spotsylvania, central Virginia area). A new representative is needed.
G. Constitution and By-Laws (Jim Munier) – no report
H. Ethics Committee (Ethan Saliba) – no report
IV. New Business
- News from regional representatives. – Ian Rogul is working with the VHSL
to promote full time ATCs in high schools across the Commonwealth.
- High School Career Fair – The VATA has been contacted to display at a
high school career fair at Brunswick Academy on April 10. The Council notes
that while it would like to accommodate requests for representation at
events such as this a timely request must be made.
