Amendment 3
Updated: Jan 27
Please comment below on the following amendment to the VATA Constitution & Bylaws.
VATA Constitution, Article VII: Voting Power, Section 1; VATA Bylaws, Article I: Membership, Section 2.
Current language:
Constitution
Only State Licensed and National Certified members in good standing with the Association shall be entitled to vote on all questions submitted to the VATA.
Bylaws
All members may take part in discussion and debate and, in general, have the privilege of the floor during an official VATA meeting. Voting privileges are limited to those members who are Professional Certified or Certified Student members in good standing with the NATA, BOC and employed in or reside in Virginia.
Proposed language:
Constitution
Only VATA members who are state-licensed or hold the Certified-Retired designation, and are in good standing with the Association shall be entitled to vote on all questions submitted to the VATA.
Bylaws
All members may take part in discussion and debate and, in general, have the privilege of the floor during an official VATA meeting. Voting privileges are limited to those VATA members who are state-licensed or hold the Certified-Retired designation and are in good standing with the Association.
Rationale: First, in order to obtain state licensure an Athletic Trainer must be nationally certified, therefore that language is obsolete. Second, the Certified-Retired status is recognized by the NATA and allows those members to vote on NATA association matters. By changing this language, it helps us to align with the NATA on voting matters.
