2024 College and University Scholarship Recipient
Julia Sarah Oliver
I am originally From Chesapeake, VA and I am currently a 2nd year master's student at James Madison University. I graduated with my Exercise Science Bachelor’s in May 2023 from Berry College in Georgia. I currently serve as the president of James Madison’s Student Athletic Training Organization. This fall I was fortunate to do a distant immersive with the University of Louisiana Football program. I am looking forward to hopefully serving in a secondary school setting in the future where I can make a difference with high school student athletes. I participated with JMU as a part of their team for VATA student quiz bowl in 2023 and I will be participating again this year! I’m so thankful for VATA for choosing me for this award and I look forward to being a part of such a great organization.
2024 Professional Development Scholarship Recipient
Emi Reindle
My name is Emi Reindle and I am a second-year MAT student at George Mason University living in Manassas, Virginia. I am originally from Lancaster, Ohio, but I moved to Virginia when I graduated with my Bachelor's in Sports Medicine with a concentration in Leadership Studies from Marietta College in May 2023. As an athletic training student, I have developed a love for getting involved at the state, district, and national level. Throughout my academic career, I have been blessed to hold the positions of the current District Three Representative for the NATA Student Leadership Committee and the Chair for the Events Subcommittee for the College of Education and Human Development Student Advisory Board. These positions have enabled me to also attend VATA and NATA this past year, which provided me with several networking opportunities that I would have not gotten otherwise. For my career, I am hoping to be able to work within a secondary school setting once I pass my BOC and graduate! I am incredibly grateful for this profession and for winning this award.
2023 Tom Kuster Memorial Grant Recipient

In late June, he will be completing an internship as the athletic trainer for the Ireland National Team at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship in San Diego, CA. Once he returns, he is looking forward to starting an Assistant Athletic Trainer position at York College of Pennsylvania where he will be primarily responsible for the men’s lacrosse, wrestling, and volleyball teams.
2023 VATA Tom Jones Scholarship Recipient
Tanner Wynne
Hello All! My name is Tanner Wynne, and I am honored to be named the recipient of the 2023 VATA Tom Jones Scholarship. I am from Smyrna, DE, and recently graduated from the University of Lynchburg where I majored in Exercise Physiology. I am now a graduate student in the Masters of Science in Athletic Training program back at Lynchburg. I will also work as a graduate assistant in the Office of Parent, Family, and New Student Connections. I am incredibly excited about the future as I pursue my M.S. in Athletic Training. Although my days of being an athlete are over, I have always loved being involved with sports and look forward to being able to combine that passion with my goal of working in the field of sports medicine. My hope is to one day have the opportunity to work with NCAA Division 1 Football, or even venture into opening my own independent practice focusing on sports performance and rehabilitative care for athletes of all levels. I want to thank the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association and Tom Jones Scholarship selection committee for their consideration and support in helping me achieve my goals!
