Since the cancellation of the VATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium on Friday, January 6, 2017 the VATA Annual Meeting, Student Affairs, Honors and Awards Committees, and Executive Council have been working diligently to find a solution to the cancellation. The groups above have spent the last week and a half determining whether the 2017 VATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium should be canceled completely or postponed to February 10, 11, and 12.
The Annual Meeting Committee’s recommendation to the VATA Executive Council on January 15, 2017 was to cancel the 2017 VATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium. This was due to the fact that the majority of scheduled presenters were unable to commit to the proposed postponed dates. Based on this recommendation the VATA Executive Council voted unanimously to cancel the 2017 VATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium.
Although the VATA will not hold an Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium in 2017 it is committed to serving the membership by providing them with future CEU opportunities during 2017. The Annual Meeting Committee is beginning to work with the scheduled presenters to determine if they are willing to turn their scheduled presentations into a home study course(s). Once completed, these presentations will then be offered on the VATA website by later this Spring.
Everyone that was registered for the 2017 VATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium will have their registration fees reimbursed however any credit card processing fees are not reimbursable by the VATA. Members do not have to request a refund in writing because all refunds will be automatically issued in the same form as the payment received. All reimbursements should be completed by February 1, 2017.
*1/21/17- All payments made by credit card have been reimbursed to the card used in the registration transaction.
The leadership positions that were to be presented for a vote at the 2017 VATA Annual Business Meeting will now be held electronically utilizing the VATA website. Please participate in this voting opportunity when it becomes available. Membership involvement makes for a stronger association.
The student affairs committee will begin planning a student seminar that will be hosted at one of the universities. This will provide students with educational sessions along with the opportunity to host the 2017 VATA Quiz Bowl. The winning team will represent Virginia at the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association Quiz Bowl.
*The Student Seminar & Quiz Bowl event will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Liberty University beginning at 9:00am. Registration is open through February 17th!
